How to Choose a Host Agency: A Decision Method, Not a Recommendation

By OdysseySoul Travel Editorial Team · Fact review: Felipe Soares (owner review) · 2026-09-20

Choose a host agency by deciding first how you intend to work, then answering a fixed set of questions about each candidate using only that company's own current documents, and finally checking what applies where you live. This page gives you the method and the order. It does not rank host agencies, does not restate any company's costs or commission terms, and does not decide whether any activity is open to you — official material for your market answers that. [S02] [S27]

Step 1 — Write down how you intend to work

Before comparing anything, put four things on paper: how many hours a week you can realistically give this, whether you want to sell broadly or in one specialization, whether you prefer structured training or learn by doing, and how much support you want when something goes wrong mid-trip.

This step exists because most host-agency disagreements are not about which company is better. They are about a mismatch between how someone works and what they signed up for. A written answer here makes the later comparison short.

Nothing on this page assumes you will start. Deciding not to is a legitimate outcome of doing the work properly.

Step 2 — Separate the three things people call 'joining'

A host agency is the arrangement independent travel advisors work under: accreditation, supplier relationships, booking systems, and payment of commission through the agency. InteleTravel is a host agency in this sense, and its own advisor materials are where its side of any comparison should come from. [S27] [S28]

An independent-representative activity is a separate thing with its own documents and rules. PlanNet Marketing is that, not a host agency; researching one is not enrolment in the other, and a statement about one is not evidence about the other. [S09]

A team is neither. OdysseySoul Travel is a team of independent advisors working within InteleTravel — not an agency, not an accreditation holder, not an employer and not an approval authority. Keeping these three apart is the single change that makes most comparisons honest.

Step 3 — Ask the same questions of every candidate, in writing

Use one fixed list so the answers are comparable: what it costs to join and what recurring or per-booking charges exist; what the commission terms are and whether they change; how long after travel you are paid; which suppliers you can actually book and which are excluded.

Then: what training is included and whether any of it must be completed before you may sell; what support exists outside your own working hours; what the agreement says about your client records and pending bookings if you leave; and what you must not say publicly about the company or its results.

Record each answer with the document it came from and the date you read it. Leave blanks rather than filling gaps from a recruiting post. A blank is a question for the company; a guess is a decision made on air.

Step 4 — Check what applies where you live, separately

A host agency does not make local obligations disappear. Some places require a registration or a seller-of-travel filing for travel sales; independent activity usually carries its own tax and record-keeping duties. Those are answered by the official body where you live, not by any agency's sales page.

Whether a given activity may be carried out in your market at all is decided by current official material for that market. It is never inferred from a page you can read, a language you speak or a presentation you attended. [S02]

Step 5 — Discount the things that are not evidence

Persuasion and information look similar and are not. A webinar, a social post, a screenshot and a personal story are persuasion. The agreement, the company's own FAQ and the current applicable income disclosure are information. If a figure appears in the first group and not the second, treat it as unverified. [S08]

This is why no fee, commission rate or earnings figure appears anywhere on this page. Compensation questions belong with the current official disclosure of the company you are researching.

Also ask who benefits from your decision being quick. Anyone willing to answer the Step 3 list in writing loses nothing if you take a week over it.

What no host agency does for you

Whichever host you choose, its systems record bookings. They are not your memory of a client: who asked about Japan in March, whose quote expires Friday, who cannot take early flights, what you promised on a call two months ago.

That gap is why advisors keep an organized system of their own alongside a host's tools. Travel OS CRM™, powered by AEGIS OS™, is one such independent system; access is limited to eligible OdysseySoul Travel team members, separate third-party costs may apply, and it is not an official InteleTravel or PlanNet Marketing product. Using it changes nothing about your obligations under a host agreement.

Take your Step 3 answers into the Before You Start readiness checklist — it records what you have verified and what is still unknown, and asks for none of your details.
